River 6, Barnesville 2
HANNIBAL -- Visiting Barnesville High got behind early and could not make up for lost ground in a 6-2 defeat to River High in softball action on Tuesday.
The Lady Pilots took a 6-0 lead after five innings of play, but the Lady Shamrocks could only plate two runners and suffered the loss.
Regan Hanlon took the loss for the Lady 'Rocks with three Ks while Bailey Caldwell earned the win for the Lady Pilots with two Ks and two walks in the circle.
Brianna Bohandy roped a double and a single for Barnesville while Caldwell had a triple and Kayley Vankirk, Kylie Cross and Lexi Piatt added an RBI-double each for River.
Meadowbrook 6, Union Local 5
BYESVILLE -- With only two wins in their first nine games, the Meadowbrook Lady Colts were very much in need of a confidence boost.
The Lady Colts got one Tuesday in the form of a 6-5 victory against visiting Union Local, finding a way to win despite committing six infield errors.
Meadowbrook (3-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Christyn Everly led off with the first of her three bunt singles; advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rylee Combs and to third on a sac fly to right by Haylee West.
Mallori Voytko then delivered an RBI single to plate Everly and Taylor Ferguson followed with an RBI double to drive in Voytko.
Union Local failed to score in the third inning despite a hit and two Meadowbrook errors, but the Lady Jets (6-7) put together a three-run fourth to take the lead.
Morgan Edwards opened with a single and Kaitlynn Clark-Patterson walked, with both runners advancing on a one-out sacrifice bunt by Erin Edwards.
Taylor Shriver then reached on an infield hit which drove in Morgan Edwards, and when the ball was thrown away at first, Clark-Patterson also came around to score.
Bailey Lohr followed with an RBI double to knock in Shriver and put UL on top, 3-2.
The Lady Colts regained the lead by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth.
Everly reached on a one-out bunt single to start things off, with Combs reaching on a sacrifice attempt when the throw to first went awry.
West came through with an RBI single to plate Everly and, after a Voytko reached on a fielder's choice, Sydney Farley delivered a big bases-clearing, two-out double that glanced off the left fielder's glove as she attempted to make a catch running toward the outfield fence, putting the hosts in front, 6-3.
UL pulled within a run in the top of the sixth thanks mainly to a trio of MHS errors.
Erin Edwards reached via a miscue with one out before Alexis Logan belted an RBI double to knock her in.
Taylor Myers hit an infield grounder which was misplayed, and on the same play a second error occurred which allowed Logan to scamper home and trim the deficit to one.
Relief pitcher Hannah WIlson induced a groundout to shortstop to end the inning and then retired the Lady Jets on three infield popups in the seventh to preserve the victory.
Everly worked the first five inning in the circle for the win, striking out two and walking two. UL's Skylar Lucas took the loss with four Ks and no walks in a complete-game effort.
Everly's three hits led Meadowbrook while Ferguson had a double and single.
Lohr collected a double and single for Union Local.
Buckeye Trail 7, Barnesville 1
BARNESVILLE -- Visiting Buckeye Trail High collected win number 13 of the season Friday with a 7-1 victory over Barnesville.
The Lady Warriors put together back-to-back three run rallies in the fourth and fifth innings to improve to 13-3.
Hannah Smith took the pitching win for the Lady Warriors with four strikeouts and one walk. Raegan Hanlon suffered the loss for the Lady 'Rocks with two Ks and four free passes.
Randi Rippeth belted a home run, single with an RBI to lead Trail at the plate, while Cassidy Dobbins roped a triple and single with an RBI. Jenni Carmichael and Maybelline Rodriguez each stroked RBI doubles for the winners.
Barnesville (6-12) finished with five hits led by Bri Bohandy with a double and single.
Martins Ferry 7, Barnesville 5
Barnesville 14, Martins Ferry 11
BARNESVILLE - A late rally in the opening game came up short as the Barnesville Lady Shamrocks and the Martins Ferry Lady Purple Riders split a doubleheader, with the Lady Riders winning 7-5 and the Lady 'Rocks taking the nightcap by a 14-11 score.
In the opener, Amanda Jacob was the winning hurler for Ferry with three strikeouts and no walks, with Mercedez McCloud coming on in the seventh to get the final out with a strikeout. Chloe Campbell was the Barnesville starter and loser with relief help from Regan Hanlon in the fourth. The pair combined for three strikeouts and two walks.
The Lady Riders out hit Barnesville 10-8 led by McCloud and Jacob each with a home run, while Laken Roth added a triple and single, Sidne Sidon a triple and Sydni Trudo two singles.
Barnesville was paced at the plate by Sarah Powell with a homer and single while Baylie MacMillan added a triple and Hanlon had two singles.
In the second game on Senior Day, senior Brianna Bohandy had a big day smacking a grand slam to put the Lady Shamrocks (7-13) in the lead and she also added two singles.
Hanlon added three singles in the 12-hit attack, with Abby Gibbons and Hunter Miller adding two singles each.
Hanlon picked up the win in the circle, fanning one and walking one with Campbell coming on in the seventh to close it out. Abby Bumbico was the Ferry starter, with McCloud relieving in the fourth and Jacob in the fifth to get saddled with the loss. The trio combined for six strikeouts and four walks.
Leading a 15-hit offensive attack for Martins Ferry (4-11) was Jacob with two triples and McCloud with a three-bagger while Alea Funkhouser and Trudo chipped in two singles each.
