WHEELING, WV The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference announced that Huntington Bank is launching its fourth annual scholarship, in partnership with the OVAC, for high school seniors graduating in 2017.

The Huntington Bank "Doing the Right Thing" Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding community leadership and academic standing by a student within the OVAC. One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving recipient in the spring of 2017 to be used at a two-year technical college, or four-year institution.

"Huntington has sponsored the OVAC for over a decade, helping local students realize their dreams. At Huntington, we believe in doing the right thing, that means remembering our roots in the community, working for the common good of the neighborhood and believing in the power of possibility," said Chris Karpinski, Senior Wealth and Investment Portfolio Manager for Huntington Bank.

A committee made up of OVAC administrators and Huntington Bank executives will be responsible for determining the recipient of the award. Award selection will be based on the student's leadership in community service activities, community service resume, academic grade point average, and the content of a required essay.

Applications have been sent to the OVAC member schools. Students interested in applying should contact the guidance counselor at their respective school. The deadline for applications to be received is April 1. The scholarship will be awarded at the OVAC Banquet of Champions on May 15 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
