COLUMBUS -- Barnesville High senior Caide Bunfill reached the podium and earned all-Ohio status at the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament which wrapped up Saturday at The Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Bunfill finished in third place in the 220-pound weight class in Division III.
Barnesville's Bunfill began the tournament with a first-round pin of West Milton Milton-Union junior Tyler Courtwright in 1:28 and then posted a 14-2 major decision over senior Jason Newlan of Smithville. He then dropped a tough 4-3 decision to senior Ben Sullivan of New Paris National Trail - the defending state champion - in the championship semifinals, but rebounded nicely with a pin of senior Kent Peterson from Hamler Patrick Henry in 1:58 and a 4-2 decision in the third-fourth place bout over sophomore Ryan Boyle of Rootstown.
Bunfill, who also attained all-Ohio honors as a junior when he placed seventh, finished the year with a 45-5 record.
"Caide wrestled a great tournament" said Barnesville coach Jayson Stephen. "I couldn't be more proud of him for what he's done as a wrestler and as a youung man.
"I will greatly miss having him in the wrestling room," he added.
