BARNESVILLE -- Barnesville High advanced five wrestlers and Union Local had four move on to next week's district competition thanks to top four finishes at the Division III Sectional Tournament which took place Friday and Saturday on the Shamrocks' mats.
Leading the way for Barnesville was senior Caide Bunfill, who captured the sectional championship in the 220-pound division with a decision over Martins Ferry's Hunter Bodkin.
He'll be joined at the district by teamates Brylan Clouse, Brayden Reynolds, Bryce Farrabee and Dylan Glotfelty.
Clouse earned a runner-up finish at the sectional in the 152-pound weight class, dropping a 3-2 decision to Santino Kusic of Bridgeport in the championship match.
Reynolds and Farrabee both took third place - Reynolds winning his consolation final by a 9-0 major decision over Andrew Knaup of West Muskingum at113 pounds and Farrabee scoring an 8-3 decision over Andrew McFee of West Muskingum at 132 pounds.
Glotfelty took fourth place at 138, sustaining a pin in 2:01 at the hands of Jackson Unger of Coshocton in the consolation final.
Like Barnesville, Union Local also had one sectional champion as Devin Crum claimed the crown at 145 pounds with a pin of Shadyside's Will Brown in 1:47 in the finals.
Union Local's three other district qualifiers are Ryley Crall, Kade Clark and Josh Taylor.
Clark posted a runner-up finish in the 285-pound division, falling to Dom Wallace of Martins Ferry, 7-0, in the championship match; Crall took second place at 120 pounds, defaulting to Shayside's Jacson Muldrew in the title bout; and Taylor took third place at 195 pounds, beating Zac Cesario of Buckeye Local, 4-3, in the consolation final.
Three BHS wrestlers will serve as district alternates after fifth place finishes - Owen Oliver at 145, Chase Hickman at 160 and Ward Plumly at 285. UL's Jordan Dalby took fifth place at 113 pounds and will also be a district alternate.
Shadyside won the team title with 169 points, wiht Bridgeport (135.5) and Barnesville (130) finishing second and third, respectively. The remaining team scores included Martins Ferry (127), Buckeye Local (112.5), West Muskingum (108), Union Local (107), Coshocton (104.5), Bellaire (82.5), Steubenville Catholic (60), River (19), Fort Frye (13) and Monroe Central (0).
