The final two Shamrock Honorary Captains of the 2012 Barnesville High School football season are Jeff Sawvel and Bob Shepherd. Jeff and Bob were captains of the Shamrock 1983 OVAC Championship squad under Coach Bill Dowler. During the 1983 season the Shamrocks finished 9-1. The only blemish was a hard-luck, 12-6 loss to St. Clairsville at the Fairgrounds, what arguably was one of the biggest crowds to attend a Barnesville regular season game. Both teams entered the contest at

8-0. The 83 squad registered 7 shutouts that season. Coach Bill Dowler, Jeff and Bob also led Ohio to a convincing 23-6 victory in the Ohio-WV All-Star Game.

Jeff wore jersey #28 and was a running back and linebacker for the Shamrocks. He was UPI All-Ohio 2nd team as a linebacker; OVAC AA 1st team running back and linebacker; AP Eastern District 2nd team linebacker; Intell All-Valley Small School 1st team linebacker. He was the leading scorer for the Shamrocks and was voted MVP by his teammates.

Bob wore jersey #75 and was a two way tackle for the Shamrocks. He was UPI All-Ohio Honorable Mention; OVAC AA 1st team tackle; AP Eastern District 2nd team defensive tackle; Intell All-Valley Small School 1st team defensive lineman. He was voted best lineman by his teammates.

Jeff played linebacker at Davidson University. He graduated in 1988. He currently serves as Athletic Director at Clinton High School in Clinton, North Carolina. He also resides in Clinton with his wife, Jessica and daughters, Alexandra and Katherine. Jeff is the son of John and Polly Sawvel, and had two brothers who also wore the red and green. His youngest brother, Jay is currently on the football staff at the University of Minnesota.

Bob played football at Muskingum College. He was a two-year letter-winner with the Muskies. Bob was the recipient of the Greg Reager Award at Muskingum College his senior season for excellence in dedication, leadership, and practice habits. He currently serves as a teacher and coach at West Branch High School. Bob resides in Salem, Ohio with his wife, Heidi; sons, Connor and Caden, and daughter, Carter.

Bob is the son of Rick and Vicki Shepherd, and also had two brothers who wore the red and green.
