Barnesville thinclads finish at OVAC Track Championships; Lewis, 4x800 meter relay team take top places
SHADYSIDE -- The second day of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Track Championships managed to be completed despite less-than-ideal weather conditions on Tuesday at Shadyside's Fleming Field.
Several local athletes finished as top qualifiers in their respective events in Class 2-A competition.
In the girls' meet, finishing first were Amy Wahl of Barnesville in the high jump (4-10); Lizzy Nau of Caldwell in the shot put (33-5) and Jenna Furr of Caldwell in the 3200-meter run (12:11.55).
Other girls advancing were Lina Partridge of Barnesville, third in the 3200-meters (12:39.85); Tressa Doudna of Shenandoah, third in the 400-meters (1:07.19); Sam Goodhart of Shenandoah, fourth in the shot put (28-7); the Caldwell 4x800-meter relay team, fourth in 11:06.18; and the Caldwell 4x200-meter relay team, fourth in 2:00.42.
On the boys' side, Barnesville's Wesley Lewis was first in Class 2-A in the 3200-meter run (10:00.26) while the Shamrocks' 4x800-meter relay team took first in 8:35.02.
Also advancing were Tyler Danford of Caldwell, third in the long jump (17-4 3/4); Tyler Abrams of Caldwell, third in the 400-meters (54.48); Justin Niswonger of Caldwell, third in the 3200-meters (10:34.93); Chris Baldridge of Barnesville, third in the discus (119-11); the Caldwell 4x800-meter relay team, fourth in 9:13.88; and the Caldwell 4x200-meter relay team, fourth in 1:41.74.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to Saturday's overall championship meet at Meadowbrook High School where they will square off with the other qualifiers in the four classes.
