Shadyside's Neavin commits to Ohio University EasternSarah Neavin knows all about the importance of commitment, teamwork, and perseverance. This hard working senior experienced it first-hand while playing for Coach Tina Yates in Tiger town. Neavin played a major role in the Lady T's outstanding 26-1 season, which included OVAC, sectional, district, and regional crowns. Shadyside's only setback came at the hands of perennial Ohio power Fort Laramie in the state semi-finals in Columbus. The 5'11" inch forward averaged 8.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game during her senior campaign. The two year starter received a number of post season awards for her efforts. She was named First Team All-OVAC, First Team District 12, OVAC and District 12 All-Star Games participant, Eastern District Honorable Mention, Wheeling Hospital Athlete of the Week, and Times Leader Athlete of the Week."I chose OUE for many reasons," beamed Neavin. "First, I know that I am going to get a very good education there. I plan to major in Communications and I have heard many good things about the program. In addition, the campus is close to home and affordable. I will be able to earn an Ohio University degree without going into debt. Finally, OUE has a wonderful basketball program. They have great momentum and I look forward to playing a key role in helping to continue that success."Coach Tina Yates concurs that Neavin has made a great choice in her alma mater. "Sarah is a very determined player," said Yates. "She may not be the most talented player on the floor, but she more than makes up for it with her hustle, aggressiveness, and overall attitude. I think that Sarah will be a very good player for OUE."Panther boss E. J. Schodzinski is excited that Neavin has decided to continue her academic and athletic careers at the St. Clairsville campus. "Sarah is going to fit right in here," said Schodzinski. "We pride ourselves in bringing in solid players, solid students, and most importantly, solid people into our program. Sarah fits the bill in all three categories. She is going to have a great overall experience at OUE."OU Eastern is coming off its' third consecutive Ohio Regional Campus Conference championship, and also captured the Ohio Regional Campus State Tournament title as well this past season.Sarah is the daughter of Dave and Denise Neavin of Shadyside.
