SHADYSIDE -- A senior laden Shadyside High team took advantage early against the visiting Barnesville Shamrocks on Thursday and remained undefeated with a 85-49 win in a make-up contest.

Barnesville (9-7) scored the first two points of the game and had a 4-3 lead before the Tigers took over, scoring the next seven points for a 10-4 lead and then hit a couple of three pointers to boost the margin to 18-4 in the opening quarter.

The Shamrocks managed to cut the difference to 25-12 at the close of the opening round and got within a 29-17 score in the second quarter, but that was as close as they would get.

"They have seven seniors and they were sharp," Barnesville coach Chris Pack stated. "They outplayed us in every aspect of the game. We will learn from it and hopefully, we will become a team like Shadyside.

"We led 2-0 and 4-3 and that was the end of our highlights," he added. "They were sharp early and hit some big 'threes' late in the first quarter. When you get behind 18-4, it is hard to come back."

Despite cutting the deficit to 12 during the second frame, the Tigers outscored the visitors 18-10 to take a comfortable 43-22 lead to the locker room at the break.

Shadyside (16-0) continued the scoring onslaught the third stanza with a 21-8 scoring difference and tallied a 21-19 edge the final eight minutes to provide the 85-49 final.

The Tigers outgoaled the Shamrocks, 31-22, from the field and the hosts added 17-of-28 from the foul line, while Barnesville was 5-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Tyler Fitzpatrick paced the 'Rocks in scoring with 12 points with Zack Dornon close behind with 11. Dalton Smith and Bryson Stephen followed with six points each.

Nick Schuetz, with three treys, led four Tigers in double figures with 16 points. Justin Andes, who also hit three shots from beyond the arc, tallied 14, while Heath Brooks and Patrick ODonnell each added 12 markers. Dylan Kimble and Colby Emery chipped in nine counters each.

Shadyside posted a 34-24 rebounding advantage as Fitzpatrick pulled down eight boards to pace the Shamrocks.

This was the first of three meetings in a six-day period between the Shamrocks and Tigers, with the teams playing in Barnesville on Monday and back in Shadyside in the OVAC Class 2-A semifinals on Tuesday.
