Buckeye Trail, Union Local compete in golf quad SARDIS -- Buckeye Trail High has had a rash of close matches that ended tied and the fifth or sometimes sixth player tie-breaker came into play. This time, however, the Warriors came out on the good end as they utilized the fifth man tie-breaker to sweep a quadrangular match with host River, Union Local and Magnolia at Riverside Golf Course on Monday. Trail, River and Union Local all finished with identical 170 team scores, but both Justin Wilson and Matt Daymut carded a 44, while River's sixth player came in with a 46 and Union Local's next best total was a 49 giving Buckeye Trail the sweep. River was second, Union Local was third and Magnolia was fourth with a 178 total. River came into the match with a sterling 13-2 mark but drops to 15-3 with the loss. Buckeye Trail improves to 17-7 and 10-4 in the Ohio Valley Golf League action. Union Local slips to 20-6 and Magnolia is 10-16 on the year. Zach Wax of River claimed medalist honors firing an even-par 36 to lead the field, while Cory Elerick of Union Local followed with a 40. Pacing the tightly-grouped Warriors was Jed Burga with a 41. Jessi Roe was close behind with a 42 and Austin Warehime followed with a 43 while both Wilson and Daymut came in with scores of 44 to give Trail the sweep. Following Wax for the Pilots was Samantha Knowlton with a 43, while Austin Curtis tallied a 45, Jesse Merkle a 46 and Matt Marconi also came in at 46. Elerick paced the Jets and was followed by Myron Jellison (42), while both Josh Lucas and Trevor Mudrak carded a 44. Union Locals fifth man was Richie Delbridge, who carded a 49. Leading Magnolia was Luke Diffenbach with a 42 total followed by Drew Simmons at 44, Garrett Emch at 45 and Tyler Myers in with a 47. NEXT -- Buckeye Trail hosts a quadrangular with Meadowbrook, Fort Frye and Steubenville Catholic at Salt Fork Golf Course on Thursday at 4 p.m.
