Local students on All-Conference Academic Team Jeff Harrison

Local students on All-Conference Academic Team Jeff Harrison Special to The Enterprise Not only are the athletes of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference pretty good, they're pretty smart, too. Want proof? A total of 1,635 student athletes earned their way onto the OVAC All-Conference Academic Team for the 2009-10 school year. The program, sponsored by Ohio University Eastern, is in its seventh year. Students named to the All-Conference Academic Team who choose to attend OUE receive a scholarship that pays one-half of their tuition for their freshman year and is renewable for their sophomore year as long as grades are maintained. Of the 48 schools in the OVAC last year, 45 (94 percent) -- including all six local schools (Cambridge, Meadowbrook, Buckeye Trail, Shenandoah, Caldwell and Barnesville) -- took advantage of the opportunity and submitted student-athletes who qualified. Only Zanesville, Frontier and Conotton Valley did not participate. To be eligible, student-athletes must be in grades 9-12; earn a 3.8 or higher grade-point average on a 4.0 scale for the 2009-10 school year; and participate in at least one varsity sport. The certificates for the honorees were presented to the athletic directors by Ohio University Eastern Dean Dr. Richard Greenlee and Athletic Director E.J. Schodzinski at the recent meeting at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
