Burke, Doan, Skvarka and Perzanowski named All Conference
ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio-- Four players on the Ohio University Eastern Campus women's basketball team were named to All-Conference teams for the Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC). In January, the same four players also received ORCC All-Academic honors for their academic achievements. Savannah Burke was named to the first team. Allie Doan and Amber Skvarka were chosen for the second team and Natalie Perzanowski was listed as honorable mention.
To be named All-Academic players must earn at least a 3.0 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credit hours earned.
"Savannah, Allie, Amber and Natalie were joys to coach this year and very deserving of these all conference honors," said EJ Schodzinski, women's basketball coach. "Even more importantly, they were each named to the All Conference Academic Team in January." The Eastern Campus squad was the only team in the conference to have four players selected to the all conference honor roll.
Burke, a sophomore from Beallsville, averaged 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game from her power forward position. "I thought that, night in and night out, Savannah was the best power forward in our conference," Schodzinski said. "Savannah rebounded, played defense and was our go to person inside."
Doan, a sophomore guard from Barnesville, was the leading scorer at 17.3 points per game. "Allie went through a stretch of about ten games in the middle of the season where she was unstoppable," said Schodzinski. "Yet, Allie is far from satisfied with this year's results and has already begun her training for next season."
Skvarka, a junior guard from Martins Ferry, tallied 13.2 points and 2.5 steals per game. "Amber committed herself to playing better defense this year and it made us a better team. Amber could always shoot, but she became a better overall player and team leader this year."
Perzanowski, a freshman point guard from St. John Central High School who transferred from University of Toledo, averaged 10.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.4 steals per contest. "Natalie is a tremendous athlete with a passion for winning. She set the quick tempo for our games with her defensive quickness and her ability to push the basketball up the floor on offense," said Schodzinski. "The bottom line is that Natalie made her teammates better."
The Eastern Campus squad finished the season with a 21-5 overall record and won the East Division of the ORCC with a 13-0 conference mark. The Panthers also advanced to the Ohio Regional Campus State Tournament Finals where they were defeated by defending champion UC Clermont.
"The best part is that Savannah, Allie, Amber and Natalie will be returning next year," said Schodzinski. "I am already looking forward to the 2010-11 season."
