Good start for 'Rocks ends in loss to Shadyside
SHADYSIDE -- Shadyside preserved its unblemished record Thursday with a 57-42 win over the visiting Barnesville Shamrocks in a OVAC semifinal contest.
The Shamrocks got off to a good start and led 14-11 at the close of the initial frame, but Shadyside cranked it up the second round to post a 18-12 scoring advantage and take a 29-26 lead to the locker room at the halftime break.
The third quarter was the Achilles heel for the 'Rocks as the Tigers poured in 17 points while limiting Barnesville to just six to expand the lead to 46-32 heading to the final eight minutes. The teams played nearly even the final stanza with Shadyside taking a 11-10 scoring edge to provide the 57-42 final.
Shadyside (18-0) shot a blistering 68.5 percent from the field (24-of-35) and was a near-perfect 6-of-8 from the foul line. Dylan Kimble paced the Tigers with 16 points with Heath Brooks adding 10 markers. Nick Schuetz chipped in nine counters, while Ellis Brown, Patrick O'Donnell and Justin Andes each added six in a balanced scoring effort.
Barnesville (10-8) also shot well from the floor hitting 17-of-32 shots for a 53.1 percent average and tacked on 7-of-12 from the charity line. Bryson Stephen led the way with 10 points, while Dalton Smith, Preston Dornon and
Zack Dornon each contributed nine points.
The Tigers posted a 21-15 advantage on the boards, while Smith handed out nine of Barnesville's 12 assists and Preston Dornon grabbed five of the 12 steals. Stephen swatted four of the five Shamrock blocks. The 'Rocks, however, committed 18 turnover to just seven by Shadyside.
