Barnesville falls to Steubenville Catholic, 71-60

STEUBENVILLE -- Visiting Barnesville High dropped a 71-60 nod to Steubenville Catholic Central in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 2-A consolation game on Friday.

Steubenville Catholic (10-7) assumed an 18-14 first quarter lead and used a 19-16 edge in the second period to assume a 37-30 halftime lead.

Barnesville gained a 13-10 edge in the third round to trim the margin to 47-43 after three rounds and the 'Rocks had the lead down to three points with a minute and a half to play before a three-point bucket by Justin

Teramana propelled the Crusaders to victory.

"It was a back-and-forth type of game," said Barnesville coach Chris Pack. "Offensively we did pretty well except for a couple of costly turnovers. They got some second-chance shots and every time we got close, they seemed

to stick one back in," he added.

Justin Teramana paced Steubenville Catholic with 28 points, Sean Harlan contributed 18 tallies; Ankur Shah scored 10 and Andrew Rigaud had eight.

The Crusaders were 27-of-65 from the field with 40 rebounds.

Barnesville got 20 points from Bryson Stephen; 15 from Dalton Smith and 12 from Tyler Fitzpatrick.

The Shamrocks hit 23-of-54 field goal attempts; had 29 rebounds and 10 turnovers. Fitzpatrick collected eight rebounds and Stephen had six; Smith dished out seven assists and Stephen had three blocked shots.

NEXT -- Barnesville opens tournament play on Thursday, taking on Sandy Valley in the Division III Sectional at Claymont. Game time is 6 p.m.
