ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Lady Lions of Penn State University-Beaver entered the friendly confines of Ohio University Eastern ranked #1 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national poll and proved worthy of their ranking, defeating the hope standing Panthers 72-58. The loss drops the Panthers to 17-2 and ended their 15 game winning streak, while the Lions improved to 17-3 on the season.
Eastern opened the game on a quick three by Savannah Burke and played tight over the first 14 minutes, but poor shooting from beyond the arc (2-of-11) and from the free throw line (6-of-11) put the hosts behind 35-24 at the half.
Penn State Beaver raced ahead Eastern on a 26-12 run over the first 13 minutes of the second, effectively putting the game out of hand 61-36. The advantage was pushed to 23 points before Allie Doan found her shot to rally Eastern back to within 13, but with less than four minutes left it was too little-too late as the Lady Lions took the 72-58 win.
Burke was the top scorer for the Panthers with 19, while Barnesville's Doan netted 18, the only two Panthers in double figures.
For Penn State Beaver, USCAA All-American Jasmine Green scored 25, while fellow All-American Heather Sandusky scored 16. Jessica Bartges added 18.
