Barnesville harriers take part in championships
COLUMBUS -- The local area's three runners took part in the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships at Scioto Downs on Saturday.
In Division II, John Glenn High sophomore Zak Geiger finished in 57th place with a time of 17:23.
In Division III, the Barnesville duo of juniors Wesley Lewis and Brennen Delaney placed 61st and 72nd, respectively, with clockings of 17:22 and 17:30.
"That's about what I expected from Wesley since this was his first time at the state meet," said Barnesville coach Mark Brown."
"Brennen just had a bad day," Brown explained of Delaney's finish, well off his 25th place effort from a year ago. "He was sick last week and it caught up with him today.
"It was a nice day, but it was extremely windy and that slowed the times a little," Brown offered. "Both of them learned something from it and hopefully they'll come back strong next year."
St. Clairsville enjoyed the best day of schools in the Eastern District, with the girls finishing second and the boys third in Division II. St. John
Central's boys were third in Division III.
