Barnesville tops Caldwell

BARNESVILLE -- After splitting the first four sets, host Barnesville High held off visiting Caldwell, 16-14, in the fifth and deciding set for a 3-2 match win on Tuesday.

Barnesville (6-4) won the opener by a 25-15 score, but Caldwell came back to take the second set 25-22. The Lady 'Rocks rebounded for a 25-12 win in the third set, but the Lady 'Skins posted a 25-21 win in the fourth set to force the fifth set.

Leading Barnesville offensively was Mackenzie Touvelle and Paige Gibbons with 15 points each, with Gibbons serving seven aces and also dishing out 23 assists while Touvelle served three aces. Devvyn Yager added 12 points (one ace) and handed out 16 assists, while Heidi Hines served seven points (three aces).

At the net, Hines hammered 27 kills while Touvelle added nine with a pair of blocks. Yager also had two stops and a pair of blocks. Defensively, Jessica Clary paced Barnesville with 21 digs, with Hines following with 19, Yager

13, Gibbons 11 and Touvelle seven.

Emily Cermak paced the Caldwell (1-6) offense with 20 points (one ace) and she also added three kills. Katlin Weisend added 10 points (three aces) and 40 assists. Lizzy Nau tallied nine points, slammed 21 kills and added four digs, while Stacey Mugrage scored five points, hammered 11 kills and three blocks and had four digs on defense. Maggie Tilton contributed six kills.
