BAYS kick off fall season
Barnesville Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) kicked off its 2009 fall season of play last Saturday, Sept. 13. With 140 registered players, the league will be playing games Sunday afternoons at the high school until the end of October. Volunteer coaches are not only coaching a team but also have recruited their own assistant coaches, making a total of 27 coaches all together.
Although most BAYS league players are from Barnesville, many youngsters come from Bethesda, Belmont, Morristown, Beallsville, Jerusalem, Somerton, Fairview, Freeport, Quaker City, Lore City, Senecaville and Cambridge. The soccer association is grateful to the sponsors who were generous with financial assistance and they are listed on the backs of the league's soccer team shirts.
Since Aug. 20, the Barnesville Greens Soccer team has been in full swing with games both home and away for the fall season. Their high school schedule includes matches with John Marshall, East Richland Christian, Steubenville, Shenandoah, John Glenn, Linsly, Caldwell, Zanesville United and Olney Friends School.
