The Belmont County Animal Rescue League's Third Annual K-9 Classic 5K Walk/Run "Race For Man's Best Friend" will take place Saturday, Oct. 10 , 9a .m. at the National Road Bikeway in St. Clairsville.

The 5K course is flat and scenic. The race begins and ends at gazebo on the bikeway. Race day registration will be from 7:45-8:45 a.m..

Trophies will go to the overall winners in both male/female and walk/run groups. Trophies will also be awarded to the top three winners in each age group in both male/female and walk/run.

Walk/run entry age groups are as follows for both male and female: Up to age 16 ; 17-24; 25-32; 33-40; 41-48; 49-56; 57-64 and 65-99.

A total of 100 trophies will be awarded. There will also be t-shirts, pizza, fruit and snacks, baked goods, beverages and door prizes.

All proceeds go to the Belmont County Animal Shelter. The mission of BCARL is to alleviate the suffering of abused, abandoned and stray companion animals in Belmont County. At any given time there are 100-120 dogs and 40-50 cats at the shelter.

Parking for the event will be available on the east side of the bike trail in the open field near the entrance to the trail near the gazebo.

Directions to the gazebo: From Route 40 (National Road) turn south on Marietta Street (Route 9). From I-70 turn toward town on Marietta Street. Turn onto Taylor Lane and go to the end of the street. Turn right onto Allen Street. At the stop sign, the parking field will be directly in front of you. Entrance to the trail and Gazebo is to the left of the parking area.
