Warner, Bahmer lead Shamrocks
STRATTON -- In a triangular swimming meet with host Edison and Bellaire St. John's, the Barnesville boys finished second, while the Lady Shamrocks were third Saturday.
The Edison "A" team won the boys' competition with 78 points, while Barnesville followed with 63 points. The Edison "B" squad was third (58) and the Barnesville "B" team came in fourth with 46 points. The two St. John Central teams had 14 and 7 points.
Edison also claimed the top two spots in the girls' events with 86 and 82 points, respectively. Barnesville finished with 75 points and the other Barnesville squad was close behind with 71. Both Bellaire St. John's teams scored eight points.
For the Barnesville boys, Shane Warner claimed a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.84) and the 100-yard freestyle in a time of :55.86. Also finishing first was the Shamrock 400-yard freestyle relay team of Arick Swallie, Shane Roberts, Steven Lu and Ryan Seneff in a winning time of 5:43.55.
Swallie was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :27.44 and Kody Crooks was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:19.60. The 200-yard medley relay squad of Crooks, Swallie, Warner and Seneff finished second with a time of 2:16.70 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Crooks, Seneff, Swallie and Warner were second with a time of 2:03.41.
Roberts claimed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:49.79), Crooks was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (:27.44) followed by Lu in fifth (:38.64) and Roberts in sixth (:39.40). Seneff also claimed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 3:45.26.
On the girls' side, Brandi Bahmer paced the Lady Shamrocks with a pair of first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (:28.14) and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.76. The Barnesville 200-yard freestyle relay team of Bethany Clouse, Rebecca Lowry, Jordan Wells and Bahmer finished first with a winning time of 2:06.15.
Clouse was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:48.66 and the 500-yard freestyle (7:42.27). Julie Ramsey finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.42 and Britni Huntsman was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:53.29. Also claiming second was the 200-yard medley relay team of Wells, Kierstin Lucas, Clouse and Lowry with a time of 2:39.72 and the 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Samantha Shamhart, Lucas, Wells and Bahmer with a time of 5:32.36.
Other individual place finishers were Lowry, third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:09.19), Andrea Shamhart with a third in the 500-yard freestyle (9:12.82), Lucas third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:38.56 and Samantha Shamhart fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:41.64.
The Barnesville "B" relay team of Huntsman, Samantha Shamhart, Ramsey and Andrea Shamhart was third in 3:02.60, while the 200-yard freestyle relay "B" squad (Lucas, Ramsey, Samantha Shamhart and Sarah Haag was fourth (2:48.38) and the 400-yard freestyle "B" team of Brenna Skinner, Huntsman, Ramsey and Andrea Shamhart finished fourth with a time of 7:06.07.
