Lady 'Rocks defeat unbeaten Blue Devils
After leading by seven going into the fourth quarter, the Barnesville Lady Shamrocks held off the visiting Beallsville Lady Blue Devils to knock Beallsville from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 63-60 win on Thursday.
In the waning seconds of the fourth frame with the Lady 'Rocks leading by four, Beallsville connected on a "three" to pull the Lady Devils within a single point. Mariah Miller was then fouled and sank both charity toss attempts to seal the deal as another three-point attempt by Beallsville at the buzzer wouldn't fall.
Although Beallsville outgoaled the hosts 22-18, Barnesville (2-3) made up the difference from the foul line and beyond the three-point arc. The Lady Shamrocks converted 18-of-29 bonus tosses and canned 9-of-26 from long range.
Overall, Barnesville connected on 18-of-61 field shots, with Megan Phillips leading the offensive charge with 21 points including three "triples." Heidi Hines followed with 16 points and four "threes" and Miller finished with 12 markers while Sarah Phillips added seven.
The Lady 'Rocks hauled down 33 rebounds, led by Mariah Miller with eight, while Sarah Phillips and Jenna Miller each added six. Mariah Miller also had six of the 14 assists and Sarah Phillips had two of the four steals.
Beallsville (5-1) had four players in double figures, paced by Alyssa Headley with 15. Kristin Lallathin added 13, Tori Jarrett 12 and Rebecca Garlick 10 along with eight from Brandy Contos.
