If you currently have a child at Barnesville Elementary School, then you are familiar with the data folder. This organizational tool helps students to keep track of homework, grades, spelling lists, behavior charts, and calendar items. For the 2017-2018 school year, Barnesville Middle School will be continuing this practice. All middle school students will receive a data binder at the beginning of the school year. This will eliminate some of the financial burden on parents by eliminating multiple binders often requested for each class subject. In addition, since the practice of using data folders at the elementary school has been in place for a number of years, the transition to 5th grade should be smoother for our students and help our 6th - 8th grade students to be better organized. Parents and students can expect to find the following in the binders:
Homework log for daily assignments
Monthly calendar to keep track of upcoming events
BMS grading scale
Grade tracker for each class so students can monitor their final averages on
a daily basis
Username and password keeper
Tabs for each subject, a parent tab, and a homework tab
I CAN statements for all core subjects
The contents of the data binders will vary by grade level with more tabs in 5th grade and fewer tabs in 8th grade with the goal of preparing students to be more independent in the higher grade levels.
Binders will be taken to and from school each day by students of all grades. Parent information will be kept in the parent tab. Please check it nightly along with the homework log and monthly calendar to stay informed. Students are responsible for keeping track of their binder, keeping it organized, and putting papers in the correct folder tabs.
Additional ways for parents to stay informed of BMS news are to check the middle school Facebook page, Twitter feed, and sign up for the teachers' Remind 101 accounts.
