Donations, volunteers needed for Summer Lunch Program

Published: May 17, 2017 12:00 AM

Editor,

We want to thank everyone for their support of the Summer Lunch Program during the past five years. We are now getting ready for the sixth year for the program that serves the villages of Barnesville, Bethesda and Belmont. We will begin May 30, 2017 and continue through the last Friday before school begins in August. The goal of the program is to provide sack lunches to the children who do not have access to free lunches during the summer, as they do during the school year. The sack lunches we provide to these children usually contain a sandwich, fruit snack and a sweet snack. This past year we provided over 10,000 lunches to children in the communities of Barnesville, Bethesda, and Belmont. The Summer Lunch Program is completely dependent upon donations to provide these lunches. Early indications are that we will have an increase in the number of lunches hat we will provide each day.

Donations may be in the form of cookies, fruit snacks, #10 lunch snacks, individual servings of potato chips, snack crackers or cookies, and volunteers and monetary donations. It costs between $850 and $1,000 per week to provide these lunches. All monies that are collected go directly to providing lunches for these children.

We are now beginning to raise money for this year's program. If you would like to donate, you may mail your donations(s) to Summer Lunch Program, 230 W. Main St., Barnesville, OH, 43713, or drop it off at the Wesbanco office in Barnesville.

We are also looking for volunteers to help assemble these lunches. We will be assembling them in the basement of the Barnesville Main Street United Methodist Church, 230 W. Main St., Barnesville, Ohio, Monday through Friday of each week during the summer, between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. If you have anyone in your organization who would be willing to help us, please contact either Paster Richard Cox, 740-425-1196 , Rev. Andy Woods, or Marie McCrate, (740) 425-1154.

May God continue to bless you.

Pastor Richard Cox and Rev. Andy Woods, co-chairs and Marie McCrate, treasurer.
