Washington, D.C. - Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after voting in favor of (HR 325) - the No Budget No Pay Act. This legislation demands that each chamber of Congress the House and the Senate pass a budget. If either chamber does not pass a budget, members of that chamber would not get paid. For example, if the House doesnt pass a budget, members of the U.S. House of Representatives would not get paid until they passed a budget, and the same applies to the Senate if it fails to pass a budget. This legislation is similar to a bill that Johnson introduced last year called the Pass A Budget Now Act.

For almost four years, the Democrat-controlled Senate has failed to pass a budget. This is in sharp contrast to hardworking Ohio families and small businesses who constantly tell me they have to follow a budget in order to survive. There is no reason why the federal government shouldnt be held to the same common sense standards as hardworking Ohio families who are struggling to make ends meet in an economy that has experienced little to NO growth over the last four years. Washington has a spending problem, and the American people face a $16 trillion debt because of it. The No Budget No Pay Act is common sense legislation that demands Congress do its job and pass a budget while suspending the debt ceiling so America can pay its bills, said Bill Johnson.

Johnson added, So far, the Republican-controlled House passed two budgets that would fix Americas fiscal problems while protecting programs like Medicare and Social Security that are vital to Americas seniors. But, unfortunately, the Senate has failed to act. I am hopeful that the Senate will do its job to pass a budget, and work with the House to fix Americas debt problem and stop the federal governments spending addiction.
