STUDENTS IN the Barnesville schools will end their 2010-2011 school year tomorrow, May 19. This is much earlier than usual, but due to the early start last August and forgiven weather days, this early end to the school year is here. Graduation exercises, however, are at the end of the month, May 29.

THERE ARE two particular BHS grads who didn't end their education with high school graduation. They continued their education an average of three decades after their Shamrock days.

PIX Pamela Ressler McCort & Brenda Gallagher Brown

GRADUATING IN 1978, Pamela McCort enrolled at Ohio University Eastern and also began a 21-year career at the Barnesville Enterprise, serving as editor in 1996. She met and married former sheriff, Tom McCort, moved to Morristown and became actively in developing Historic Morristown. This included restoration of their 1841 home. She also enrolled in the BOLD program at Wheeling Jesuit University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Development degree in 2009. She has been with the County Board of Developmental Disabilities and serves as its Communications Coordinator.

A 1981 BHS graduate, Brenda Brown attended college part-time for 29 yeas. She received an Associate Degree in Accounting and Computer Programming in 1992 from Belmont Technical College and a Bachelor's degree in Technical and Applied Studies from Ohio University in 2010.

IN ADDITION to her studies, Brenda began working in the Belmont County Auditor's office under the late H. O. Hall in 1983. In 1988 she began a Job Training Partnership with Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library as fiscal officer. During this time she married BHS teacher, coach and guidance counselor, Mark Brown. She is the mother of three sons and an active team "Mom."

IN OCTOBER 2010, after the retirement of long-time librarian, Kitty Koch, Brenda Brown became Director of Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library.

BOTH OF these young women have shown that with desire and perseverance, their professional goals can be attained through continued education.
