On Saturday, Sept. 24, the largest 5k race ever in Barnesville and the second biggest in the entire Ohio Valley took place. The race was a huge success. The proceeds from this race benefit the Barnesville Cheerleaders and the Rails-to-Trails Project. This would not have been possible without the following people and businesses and they need to be recognized:
Chip and Ryman & Terrett Pharmacy: He has been our exclusive sponsor for many years. It is a rarity in this economy and in this day and age to find someone so generous and selfless.
The Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley: They have done so much for the local races this year with their Grand Prix Series, their generosity, and their presence at these events.
Halloran’s Home Pizza of St. Clairsville: Pat and Patty provided us the use of their trailer and manned the course for safety, accuracy, and continuity.
The Village of Barnesville: Between the Street Dept., Police Dept., Fire Dept., and the Village Administrator, they are always so helpful and supportive in making our races safe and successful.
Buckeye Steel: For allowing us the use of their building and their property for storage, parking, and results.
Volunteers: No race happens without volunteers, especially one of this size. The following people went above and beyond what we could have hoped for: Brenda Miller, a staple at all of our races; Rick Hanse whose dedication and ingenuity are invaluable; Sharon Hanse of Toucan Calligraphy for always helping and providing all of our race signs; Rich Sidwell who is completely involved from beginning to end; Robin Jefferis and KFC for making the water stations a success; Bill Cullingford of Middle Fork Maestro Web Design for helping with parking, traffic control, pictures, and for maintain our races’ web site; Crystal Warner for taking pictures; Dr. Tim Miller for providing OSU tickets; Molly Harris for helping out in so many ways and for the goodies; The Partridge family who help with everything from registration to parking and then ran the race.
Committees: The following committees were instrumental in countless ways in making this event happen: Barnesville Area Rails-to-Trails Committee (BARTC) for being involved in every step of the way; The Barkcamp Race Committee, who knows how to put on a successful race (kudos Rod, Denise and Cindy!); The Pumpkin Festival Committee for promotional efforts; The Cheerleader Moms for their efforts; The Boy Scouts Troop 71 for their use of tents and coolers (we appreciate it Melissa!) and The Ohio Valley Runners/Walkers Club.
Businesses: The following businesses donated refreshments for free or at a discounted rate: Bethesda Marketing & Catering, Bob’s Carry Out, Domino’s Pizza, Fox’s Pizza, Hollie’s Cookie Hut and South Central Power.
To anybody we have omitted who helped make this race possible, we sincerely apologize.
Of course, we cannot forget the 400+ people who registered and participated in the race. Without runners and walkers, there is no race.
Finally, we want to express our appreciation to our wives Jessica and Teresa who are as involved and invested in all of our races as much as we are but don’t carry the title of “Director” after their names.
