Howard Carpenter, 67, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Barnesville Hospital. He was born on December 8, 1949 in Barnesville to the late Clarence and Ruth (Sutherland) Carpenter.

He was a 1967 graduate of Barnesville High School. He served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and then served 22 years in the United States Army Reserves from which he retired.

He was a retired mechanic for R&F Coal Company, ODOT, and Kennedy's Hardware. Howard was a member of the VFW Post 2792, 45 year member of the American Legion Post 168 where he was serving as the Adjutant, and a member of the Barnesville Disabled American Veterans.

He loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and most of all being with his grandchildren target practicing, riding four wheelers and dirt bikes, and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Carpenter.

Howard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joanne (Powell) Carpenter whom he married on June 7, 1969; sons, Matthew (Stefanie Finelli) Carpenter of Kent, Ohio and Travis (Erin) Carpenter of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jack and Olivia Carpenter and Gabby Finelli of Kent, Ohio and Trevor and Mason Carpenter of Canton, Ohio; sister, Patricia (Russell) Leach of Jerusalem, Ohio; brother, Bernard (Julie) Carpenter of Barnesville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Carol Carpenter of Temperanceville; mother-in-law, Janet Roberts of Bethesda; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio where services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 a.m.. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio.

Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Belmont County Veteran's Association.
