Dr. Miles Richard "Dick" Murphy, 86, of Barnesville passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at Astoria Place of Barnesville. Dick was born on December 6, 1930 in Jerusalem, Ohio to the late William and Martha (Kemp) Murphy.
Dick was a 1948 graduate of Beallsville High School.
He attended the East Main Street Church of Christ. Dick lived in San Francisco for over 40 years and while living there, he worked as a scientist for NASA for 25 years and then later as a psychiatrist. Dick spent several years furthering his education and was fluent in many languages but his favorite to speak was Japanese.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Jo Murphy; and siblings: Norma Reischman, Nancy Cochran, Marlene Murphy, James Murphy, Randall Murphy and Sandra Murphy.
Dick is survived by his siblings: Charles Murphy of Barnesville, Barbara (Glenn) McCort of Barnesville, and Betty (Don) Gastineau of Granville; several nieces and nephews; and special niece and caregiver, Sharon McCort.
Visitation was held on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service with Jamie Helmick officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio.
Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio. Military honors were conducted at Ebenezer Cemetery.
