Born in Dun Glen, Ohio on July 19, 1935, Bernard "Bernie" Lee Thompson was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all that had the privilege to know him.
He was married to Edna Margaret nee Shirbish for 49 years, but they had been in love and together for 54 years. Together, they were the proud parents of seven children, Vicki (Len), Bernie Lee, Maxine (Dave), Shawn (Deana), Shane (Amber), Joe (Jessica), Jessie (J.R.); extraordinary grandparents to their 14 grandchildren, Lenny, Josh and Lynette, Ashley and Courtney, Elyse and Bernie, Alex and Jamie, Zane, Bo and Sadie, Alannah and Aliyah; and are amazed at the blessings and joy their 10 great-grandchildren provide them. Bernie and Edna's home is and has always been full of love and laughter.
Surviving Bernie is his brother, Bill and sister, Bobbi. Bernie was one of nine children. He grew up around Mt. Pleasant, Ohio and went to Mt. Pleasant High School. After high school, Bernie joined the United States Marines, where after basic training, he was assigned to Fleet Marine Force (2nd Marine Division) and spent the next three years traveling around the world. Bernie always said that he had been to more countries than states.
Bernie and Edna settled in Loomis, Ohio and raised their family. Bernie was a coal miner and a life-long Ohio State and Cleveland sports fan, who was not happy about last year's World Series! Bernie faithfully attended Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He is deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his adoring family and wonderful circle of friends, who are comforted by so many warm memories of a life well lived.
Family and friends were welcomed, Wednesday, May 17 prior to the service at Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 322 N. Main St., Bethesda, Ohio. Dr. Brian Bee, Pastor officiated.
