Evelyn Thornberry

1928-2013

Evelyn Marie Thornberry, 84, of Old Washington, died Tuesday (January 22, 2013) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

She was born August 29, 1928 in Barnesville, daughter of the late Fred Jones and Hazel (Sullivan) Jones.

Mrs. Thornberry had worked at Barnesville Manufacturing Company for five years. She had also worked at the Shenandoah Inn.

She was a member of the Old Washington United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Golden Sixties.

Mrs. Thornberry was a graduate of Barnesville High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne “Whitey” Thornberry, who died August 26, 1990. They were married on September 2, 1949. Also deceased are three sisters, Mildred Tolbert, Helen Johnson, and Wilda McWilliams; a brother, James Jones; and a son, Dane Fairchild.

She is survived by a son, Lloyd “Mike” Thornberry of Newcomerstown; a daughter, Teri (& Randy) Williams of McConnelsville; a daughter-in-law, Linda Fairchild of Byesville; and three grandchildren, Cody Merva of Pittsburgh PA, Lauren Marie Thornberry of Columbus, and Chad Hollins of Cambridge.

Visitation wasThursday January 24 at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services were held on Friday January 25, 2013. Rev. Floyd Costello officiated.

Burial was at Old Washington Cemetery.
