Smithville -- Jerry W. Wyant III, 74, of Smithville died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 19, 2009 while working at the Mt. Zion Church of Christ. He was born June 3, 1935 in Old Washington to Jerry W. and Edna M. (Gallagher) Wyant and lived in the Smithville area for 43 years.He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1953 and was U. S. Coast Guard veteran.He was an active member at Mt. Zion Church of Christ and was a faithful servant of the Lord. Jerry owned and operated Classic Marble in Orrville since 1988 and was a former long distance truck driver.He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his marble business and customers, gardening and farming.He married Janice D. Dixon on June 1, 1958 and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jodee Wyant Miller of Orrville; Jay (Carol) Wyant of Tracy, Calif., Jane (Ed) Zaleski of Dalton; Jonathan (Barbara) Wyant of Orrville and Julie (Jason) Durrett of Bowling Green, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Winifred) Wyant of Sterling; sisters, Sandra (John) O'Brien of Wooster, Kathy (Scott) Chapman of Westerville, Manuella (Dave) Mylander of Columbus and Becky (Jim) Dawson of Ashville, Ohio.Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman with Brother James Bond officiating. Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman with military honors.
