WOODSFIELD -- A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Church of Christ, 303 S. Main St., Woodsfield, for Francis L. "Tinker" Sulsberger Jr., 87, who died peacefully Tuesday (Dec. 2, 2008), at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while surrounded by family and friends.The Rev. Frank Lehosky will officiate.Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service.Tinker was a graduate of Woodsfield High School and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Woodsfield. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Persian Gulf.He and his family returned to Woodsfield in 1947. He ran for sheriff of Monroe County and when elected was the youngest sheriff ever to serve in the State of Ohio. He served for 40 years until his retirement in 1993. He was also active in many civic organizations.He was preceded in death by four sisters, Kathryn, Margie, Vivian and Janet; and two brothers, Walter and Carroll.He leaves his wife, Helen Rosalie (Lynn) Sulsberger of Woodsfield; two daughter, Susan (Mike) Murray of Grove City and Margie Hannahs of Barnesville; two sons, Tom (Jane) Sulsberger of Cambridge and Dick (Karen) Sulsberger of Woodsfield; seven grandchildren, Mike (Grace) Stahl, Louie Hannahs, Justin Sulsberger, Megan Sulsberger, Abby (Bill) Roen, Ryan Sulsberger and Louie Sulsberger; and a great-grandson, Donovan Roen.Online condolences may be expressed at www.bauerturner.com.Memorial contributions may be made to Tink and Rosie Sulsberger Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund, c/o WesBanco Bank, 101 N.
