School District policy on school lunches

A thought to consider. A six year old kindergartener's lunch account reached a $0.00 balance. He is sent through the line, is given his lunch, then when he reaches the cashier he is told he cannot have the lunch. The cafeteria workers take the food from him and offer a PB&J sandwich (that he does not like) and nothing else. The child is left standing crying and confused. The parents are not notified, and the child goes hungry. All because the district can't afford to offer a lunch and collect the money later? What lesson does that teach the six year old child? How it feels to go hungry? That it's okay to give someone something then take it back? That adults are bullies and are not there to help?
A school district's primary responsibility is to the children. There purpose is to educate and serve the students and the community. A good district will operate as the hub of the community with open doors and open communication, putting the children first at all costs.
I'll bet the Superintendent didn't go hungry that day, he probably took his $95,000 and bought a nice lunch.

With peanut allergies and related nut allergies that many children have, I am amazed that the school are willing to hand out PBJs so easily. A human who is violently allergic to peanuts could go into Anaphylactic Shock and die before the nurse or the squad could arrive at the school.

As that this incident has been posted to the public, I believe that the schools now carry a liability issue over this policy.

Who is responsible to make sure the six yaer old's lunch account does not reach a $o.oo balance. Is there a monthly statement or at least a warning given when the account is low?I guess no child left behind does not include nutrition.Or perhaps this is a new fitness program dreamed up by the school board.Things like this make me glad my daughter is grown up and on her own.God help the grandkids.

What do you expect when the schools put all of their money into the Super instead of the students?

If the school board can not find solutions to the many problems that have been placed upon them, then maybe the board should step down and let some one else try to make things work.
