The New Ohio Line Fence Laws

I have become a study of things that affect our lives and try to live by them. Ohio has changed the laws concerning adjoining property owners fence lines.

Old fence lines must be maintained and the brush be cleared away from under the fence. New Fence lines have a whole new set of standards and the cost of new fence lines is to be shared by both property owners. There can be some heated debates between people concerning fence lines.

Here is a good source of easy to understand information:

Of the three adjoining sides of my property currently I only have one problem situation, I will probably let my township trustees make that decision as per the Ohio Revised Code.

My fence lines are maintained and the brush has been removed from under the fence line, so by Ohio Law I will not have to make any changes.

There is an old saying, Good Fences, Make Good Neighbors.

Miestro,I grew up near the town of Somerton, and these fence laws you are so well schooled on were never an issue with GOOD neighbors.A helping hand was always extended to GOOD neighbors. The law and lawyers were never added to the mix because people tried to be GOOD neighbors.Times sure have changed, but I guess this has to do with the quality of the residents in and near Somerton.Good luck with your fenceline, watch out for the wild roses.

I should have said, the fence line laws are an added burden to those land owners who do what the law requires.

To update this story, I now mow or us my weed wacker on the vegitation under the fences adjorning my property and the one fence that is on my property and is not a shared fence, I just spray Round Up on all of the brush around that fence.

This law is an added burden on land owners.
