For those craving treats with a homemade quality, Kaplet's Drive In is the place to stop.

"Much of what we make is homemade and freshly made," said Molly Kaplet, who co-owns the drive in with her husband Pat and mother in-law Becky. "We work hard to keep our products high quality."

During the summer, customers can satisfy their hunger with pulled pork sandwiches or taco nachos supreme, the newest additions to Kaplet's menu. The drive in also serves hamburgers, sloppy joes, hand-breaded chicken and fish.

Molly said they use many of the old recipes from when the drive-thru was Hall's. The pulled-pork is their own recipe and the sloppy joes are homemade. The hamburger and pork mix is also homemade. They buy most of their meat fresh from J-Mos. They also use fresh produce and their fries and sweet-potato fries are hand-cut.

If opting for a cold treat, Kaplet's also offers soft serve ice cream. Showcasing more than 30 flavors, customers can mix and match to come up with a new combination.

"There is a huge variety of combinations and add-ins," Molly said. "The flavor machine makes sure the add-ins are in every bite."

Among the most popular flavors of ice cream are cheesecake, piña colata and raspberry. The ice cream toppings are also homemade.

In addition to ice cream, Kaplet's offers weekend special dinners featuring DiRusso Italian sausage, beef brisket, Philly steak and pork tenderloin sandwiches as well as the popular barbecued chicken and rib dinners. The weekend specials are advertised on a sign. Call-ins orders are appreciated.

Kaplet's also makes food for special occasions.

In addition to the Kaplets, five part-time employees round out the staff.

Kaplet's is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. It is located at 32825 Leatherwood Pike, on State Route 147 toward Quaker City. For more information or to place an order, call 425-9005.
