Barnesville Village Council issued commendations to three police officers for their heroic efforts in saving two people during two separate incidents in the village.
Council gave commendations last Monday to Sgt. Matt Tippie, officer Katie Kovalchik and officer Logan Havas.
In other business, Clay Bethel of Westfield Insurance handed out the term sheet for the 2018-2019 Village of Barnesville Insurance. The premium for this upcoming year is $74,112, which is an increase over last year of approximately $7,000. Most of the premium increase is due to the new building acquisitions. Council approved the term sheet.
Village Administrator Roger Deal informed council that the Riesbeck’s storm drain project is complete. The original estimate was $80,000 to re-line and another $10,000-$20,000 for other expenses. The project actually came in at $54,583.17 with Riesbeck’s agreeing to pay half.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Rocky Sirianni asked council to approve running an ad for a full-time resource officer. This would make a full-time officer at each school location. Chief Sirianni talked to school officials and they are willing to split the cost 60/40. Council approved placing an ad for the position.
Council was also informed that the swimming pool is still leaking. Astro Pools is still troubleshooting it.
Deal asked council to authorize an ad for the 2019 bulk chemical bids. Council approved the request.
In other business, council approved a $25,000 commitment to the JEDD Paving project.
Council will meet again on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers.
