Nearly 100 golfers turned put for the seventh annual Friends Fighting Hunger Putt’r Golf Classic, benefiting the Center of Hope and Kent Social Services, which was held recently at Birdie Shack in Ravenna Township.
Following the scramble-style event, golfers enjoyed a buffet dinner catered by Guido’s, hosted by the Ravenna Elks Lodge. In addition to a silent auction of 46 baskets of gift items, emcee Terry Montz presided over a live auction. The grand prize was a one-week stay at the Myrtle Beach condo of Dr. Steve and Patti Dean.
Organizers are grateful to Dee and Lenny Polichena for hosting the fundraiser at Birdie Shack for seven years; Cyndi Lauener for her basket expertise; Step2 for its donation of a Garden House and Dino Dig Sand & Water playset; The Living Room Band, which provided entertainment; and Terry Montz and Bill McCluskey for help with raffle items. Special thanks to the Jo Woodward Foundation of Kent, premier sponsor, and to other sponsors, hole sponsors and golfers who supported the event.
Committee members included Gerry Keyser, founder of the event, Julie Piccione Beach, Margaret Courtney, Patti Dean, Amina Hall, Pete Mahoney, Mike Wells, LaJoyce Harris, program manager of the Center of Hope, and Marquice Seward, program manager of Kent Social Services.
More than $20,000 was raised to benefit food programs of the Center of Hope and Kent Social Services, including their Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday drives. Both are programs of Family & Community Services, Inc.
