Pumpkin festival set
The 55th annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival is set for Thursday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 30 throughout downtown Barnesville. The festival includes contests, entertainment, tastes, sights and sounds. Both adults and children will enjoy harvest-inspired arts and crafts, home-style foods, entertainment on two stages, a giant weigh-in of champion pumpkins, lots of fun contests and the Giant Pumpkin Festival Parade on Saturday. There is plenty to see and do and, best of all, admission is free.
Leaf pick up set
The Street Department will once again pick up leaves that are bagged and left curbside by residents of the Village of Barnesville. The bags must be the biodegradable compostable paper bags. Plastic trash bags will not be accepted. Bags must contain leaves only and will be picked up as time allows. No specific schedule will be followed.
55th BHS Class of 1963 reunion set
Barnesville High School Class reunion is set for Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at The First Baptist Church, 94 Shady Lane, Barnesville. Use basement side door.
Cookbook Club to start
Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library is continuing the Cookbook Club for adults. Come join us each month as we pick a theme and prepare dishes to share. The first session will be on Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with some of our favorite Tailgate Recipes. They will have samples of various dishes made by class members. The program will take place at the Barnesville Library Annex, 611 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville. Registration is limited so please stop in at the library or call 740-425-1651. Class of 1965 to meet
The Class of 1965 will have its yearly Pumpkin Festival get together on Saturday, Sept. 29 in the downstairs at the Elks at 7 p.m.
Homecoming and Harvest Festival set
Olney Friends School in Barnesville will have its annual Homecoming and Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the school starting at 10 a.m. There will be the Olney Distance Run, plus an artisan fair, alumni vs. student soccer game, pumpkin painting and carving, keynote speaker, live music and much more. Rummage sale set
The Flushing United Methodist Church, 301 E. High Ave., will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. Friday is $1 a bag day. There will be lots of clothing, household items, toys and miscellaneous.
Monthly board meeting set
Belmont College will hold its monthly Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, Sept. 27 in the Boardroom at the Main Campus in St. Clairsville. The board workshop starts at 5 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Blue Star Banner available
The Blue Star Banner is available to any Barnesville area family of a serviceman or servicewoman serving in any branch of the military, including the National Guard (active or reserve). A banner will be dedicated to the family and then placed in their window for the service member. For information or to have a ceremony, call 740-238-2137.
Coin club meets
The Barnesville Coin Club meets the third Sunday of every month, except December. The meetings are open to the public and are located at 229 E. Main St., Barnesville.
