ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Belmont College is pleased to announce a new partnership with Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU). The joint effort means students can earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology and/or social work starting this fall without ever leaving the St. Clairsville campus. Students will obtain the degrees exclusively at Belmont College through IWU’s School of Service and Leadership.
Students attending Belmont College can currently take courses related to psychology and social work to receive an associate of arts degree. Now, by completing IWU hybrid classes onsite at Belmont College and online, they can also earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work or a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology of Human Relations.
The IWU hybrid courses are completed though a blended model, meaning that the five-week courses will meet at the Belmont College campus in week one and week five, with the other three weeks being completed online. Students looking to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology of Human Relations will need 59 credits to complete and will take about 18 months. Additionally, a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work will require 67 credits to complete and will take about 30 months; this also includes a 400-hour internship.
"We are excited to work with Indiana Wesleyan University to create a seamless pathway to a Bachelor’s Degree in social work as well as psychology," said Dr. Heather Davis, Associate Professor and Department Chair Mental Health, Early Childhood Education, Social and Behavioral Sciences at Belmont College. "Students will not have to leave the area to complete these courses and this transfer and articulation agreement will decrease the time-to-degree, and save the costs of travel, room and board, and repeating courses.
