Joe Williams & Deep Water will bring their bluegrass music to kick off the 35th season of the Showcase 2018 Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at the Community Arts Place on Colonel Drive in Barnesville.

Joe Williams & Deep Water’s signature is described as a smooth, drivin’ bluegrass style and performance that includes classic and many original songs. The band’s current four-piece group has been performing together since 2010. The members are: Joe Williams, guitar and lead vocals; Connie Williams, mandolin, harmony and lead vocals; Rich Smith, banjo and vocals and Carol Smith, upright bass.

Williams is also known as a great song writer. He has written or co-written all but one song on the band’s first CD, "Grip on the Night," and one tune on their latest CD, "Requests." The band has opened for many great national artists.

The Showcase 2018 Summer Concert Series will also be featuring poetry in the concert program booklet. The Concert Series committee has researched archives of Community Arts for poems submitted by local area artists over the years. The poetry of late Robert L. Vaughn (1911-2005), who lived in Bethesda, will be reprinted for the first program.

All outdoor performances will be held at the Community Arts Place on Colonel Drive. Those coming to the concert should bring lawn chairs. In the case of rain, events will be moved to the Little Rock Learning Center (former Grange Hall) on Shamrock Drive. Donations are appreciated. Fruits of Life Greenhouses will provide floral gifts at the conclusion of the evening. A food stand will be open during the evening.
