The Belmont County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society had as guest speaker at the June 10 meeting, Krista Brown Barrett who shared life living as a military spouse.
The meeting, open to the public, took place at the Genealogy Room of the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library on East Main Street.
The organization is currently accepting applications for the First Families and Pioneer Families of Belmont County. The group decided this year to host the induction every other year. The application deadline is Aug. 1, 2019, for next year’s program. At the first meeting of the year several items were discussed including research. The following motion on "rules for research" was passed by those present. It was posted on the organization’s Facebook page on May 21.
In other news, the chapter has submitted nine applications for government veteran’s markers for the Old Ebenezer Cemetery. Restoration work will continue at Old Ebenezer this there this summer thanks to a grant from the Belmont County Tourism Council. Belmont County Chapter, OGS received one of 40 grants from the council. The funds will pay for tombstone restoration work by Mark Morton of Gravestone Guardians.
The next meeting of the genealogical society will take place, Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. at the library.
