Reinstatement efforts by members of the Barnesville Eagles Aerie 4252, whose charter was revoked by the Grand Aerie in January, were met with a significant setback recently when the national organization sold the lodge home at 137 E. Main.
A transaction recorded by Belmont County Recorder Mary Catherine Nixon on May 29 reveals the building that once housed Kirk’s Furniture and Kirk’s Lady’s Shop, was sold to DG Dance Workshop, current tenant in the building, for $75,000.
Members of the lodge were unpleasantly surprised January 8 to find the doors locked and a sign indicating Barnesville Eagles Aerie Lodge 4252 was "permanently closed". Eagles Aerie 4252 purchased the former Kirk’s building in 1987.
Local resident Scott Whitacre, vice chairman of District 7 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, spearheaded efforts to get the lodge reinstated by the national organization headquartered in Grove City.
