Commissioners consider vacating Two Somerset Twp. roads

A petition signed by 30 residents and property owners of Somerset Township was received and reviewed by Commissioners at their May 2 meeting.

Petitioners ask that .527 miles of abandoned Dody Road (T-17) and .269 miles of abandoned Betts Road (T-16) south of Boston be vacated. The two roads have not been open for decades.

Commissioners set a May 16 viewing of the site and a May 23rd hearing at the commissioners’ office to consider the request.

Warren Twp. roads dedicated

The Belmont County Commissioners approved the dedication of three new roads at the May 2 meeting. The roads, Jeru Park Drive, Jeru North and Jeru West were previously private roads near the former Bob’s Chevrolet property that also includes land formerly part of the Belmont County Children’s Home.

At the meeting, Larry Merry, Port Authority Director, said this is part of an ongoing project of the past five- to six-years. Nine businesses are currently there with five new buildings up and one more on line for construction this summer. Merry said property houses businesses employing 200 individuals.

With the dedication, the roads become part of the Warren Twp. system.

New Union Twp. liquor license sought

On May 2, commissioners passed on an opportunity to request a hearing by the Ohio Division of Liquor Control related to a request for a new D5A liquor license for SBW Development LLC, doing business as Sleep Inn and Suites, on Reco Road off SR 149 south of I-70 in Union Township. The commission noted no objections were received by the board.
