Commissioners focus on animal shelter

At the February 21 Belmont County Commissioners meeting, two actions relating to the county animal shelter were voted upon. A formal policy relating to volunteers was approved and commissioners authorized the Belmont County Auditor to establish a Special Revenue Fund for the Belmont County Animal Shelter – Ohio Pet Grant.

Cambridge man pleads to Barnesville shooting

Cambridge resident, Mitchell Metzer, 32, pled guilty Monday, February 28 to a single felony count of aggravated assault for his part in a shooting incident that occurred at a Franklin Street home last May 16. The Enterprise previously reported the Cambridge man was scheduled to go to trial on March 1. Metzler’s sentencing is set for this week by Judge Frank Fregiato.

Metzler’s brother, Michael Smith, 30, also of Cambridge, was arranged in Belmont County Western Division Court on assault charges related to the shooting incident. His next court date is also expected to take place this week on March 13.
