Murray Energy, headquartered in Belmont County, is slated to acquire a major stake in five Kentucky coal mines, according to the website of Energy Business Review.

The businesses’ subsidiary Murray Kentucky Energy will acquire 51% of a new company consisting of assets formerly held by Armstrong Energy which applied for bankruptcy in November 2017.

In addition to the mines, the new company will be the owner/operator of three coal processing facilities, river dock coal hauling and railroad loadout facilities.

The transaction is subject to approval of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, which is handling the Armstrong Energy bankruptcy case.
