Blind Date With A Book

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Stop at the Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library and check out a wrapped book, take it home, and unwrap it. Show it your favorite spot to read. Get to know each other. Random Acts of Kindness Week set

The Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week by hosting an after school program on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 2:45 to 4 p.m. at the Walton Home. The kids will collaborate with the residents to make a craft. Any child age 6 and up is invited to participate in this event. Drop off and pick up will be at the Walton Home. Registration is required and can be done by visiting the library or calling 740-425-1651.

Ohio University Eastern College Credit Plus Info Nights scheduled

Students currently in grades 6-11 and their parents are invited to attend College Credit Plus Information Nights at Ohio University Eastern Campus on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. in the OUE Theater located in Shannon Hall. Those interested in participating only need to attend one of the two Information Nights. College Credit Plus is a unique opportunity for qualified students to earn college credits prior to their graduation from high school. All tuition and textbook costs are free. In addition, the college credits earned also count toward high school graduation requirements and are designed to transfer to most public universities in Ohio.

According to Morris, the program benefits many local students each year. One recent success story is Ashlyn Doudna of Buckeye Trail High School. "The College Credit Plus program at Ohio University Eastern has been a wonderful opportunity for me," she said. "I am so happy that I followed through with it as I am on track to earn an Associate of Science degree from Ohio University at the same time that I graduate from high school. OUE has provided a great learning environment for me, plus I saved a great deal of time and money."

Accounting 101 seminar

Pupil activity validation seminar set

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar before the spring season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (room 127) on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series. Commissioners’ schedule

The Board of Belmont County Commissioners announces its meetings for 2018. Regular meetings will take place on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. until adjournment at the Belmont County Courthouse, 101 W. Main St., St. Clairsville. Contact the Clerk of the Commissioners at 740-699-2155 for placement on the agenda at least 48 hours in advance. The Board will have work sessions on Mondays at 9 a.m. (or Tuesdays at 9 a.m in case of a Monday holiday). Belmont SWCD board meetings set

Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District announces the following board meeting dates for 2018: Feb. 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Dec. 10. Meetings will be held at 101 Market St., St. Clairsville, at 6 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.

Walk-in clinics set

The Belmont County WIC Program will sponsor walk-in clinics the first Friday of each month. The hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Bellaire WIC office is located int eh Chase Bank building on the fourth floor, room 402. New clients need to bring proof of address, proof of income, proof of pregnancy and photo identification for themselves. Crib cards will be accepted for newborns. Clients needing recertified, need to bring photo identification, proof of income and proof address. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that encourages breastfeeding and provides nutrition education to its clients. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, infants, and children up to the age of 5 years old qualify. Working families are encouraged to apply. For information, call 740-676-2232.

Belmont SWCD is having a photo contest for our 2019 "Belmont County Old Barns" Calendar. The deadline for the contest is Aug. 10, 2018.
