CADIZ — Bradan Lucas ran for three touchdowns as the unbeaten Union Local Jets rolled to a 36-18 win over the host Harrison Central Huskies on Friday.
Harrison Central actually drew first blood, with DeJuan Caldwell capping a drive with a one-yard plunge with 7:31 showing in the opening quarter, but the attempted run for the two-point conversion failed giving the Huskies a 6-0 edge.
Just before the first frame ended, Union Local took the lead as Cal Kildow plowed in from a yard out and Kade Clark split the uprights with the PAT kick to give the Jets a 7-6 lead going to the second stanza.
Lucas then garnered his first score of the night on a five-yard run with 5:20 remaining before halftime and Clark was again true on the extra-point to up the lead to 14-6.
With just 1:42 showing before the halftime break, Tyler West broke loose for a 63-yard scamper to the end zone to pull the Huskies within two at 14-12. The host went for the two-point conversion to knot the score, but the pass was no good sending the teams to the locker room separated by the two points.
Union Local scored a pair of touchdowns in the third frame, with Ben Howell rambling 26-yard for the first and Clark again added the PAT kick to raise the difference to 21-12.
Lucas then picked up his second TD of the night on a 10-yard scoring run and the Jets went for the two-point conversion, with Kildow hitting Zane Thompson with the pass to up the lead to 29-12 with 8:05 left in the third round.
Early in the final frame, Lucas garnered his third rushing TD on a six-yard run and Clark booted the extra-point to give the Jets a comfortable 36-12 advantage with 11 minutes to play.
With just 1:09 remaining in the game, Tucker Coultrap ran in from three yards out for the final Harrison Central score, but his attempt to add the extra two points on a run was snuffed providing the 36-18 final.
Union Local rolled up 397 yards of offense with 262 coming on the ground. Lucas led the attack with 98 yards on 16 carries with Howell adding 75 yards on 10 tries. Kildow tacked on 45 yards on eight totes and Nathan Bomboris had 27 yards on just four carries.
Kildow was 12-of-21 through the air for 135 yards, but suffered two interceptions. Lucas led the receiver corps with seven catches for 67 yards with Howell having two grabs for 46 yards.
Harrison Central managed 259 yards of total offense, with the bulk of it (224 yards) on the ground. West, with the 63-yard scoring scamper, led the way with 101 yards on 15 attempts. Coultrap added 69 yards on 11 carries and Caldwell had 54 yards on 11 totes.
Caldwell completed 4-of-10 passes for 35 yards, with Caden Dalton having two catches for 17 yards.
