BELMONT COUNTY The new Hammond Road Connector was opened to traffic Friday, July 14th, as part of the ongoing $19.5 million, major interchange improvement project underway at Interstate 70.

Traffic signals at the old intersection of State Route 331 and Hammond Road will be removed Friday as well, and access will no longer be permitted to Hammond Road from SR 331. All traffic wanting to travel on Hammond Road will now have to use the new Hammond Road Connector this includes but is not limited to Belmont College, Belmont County School of Hope, Belmont County JVS, the Belmont County Sheriff's Department, Sargus, and Belmont County Job and Family Services traffic.

ODOT's contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Columbus, Ohio, began work in April of last year on this project to reduce congestion and improve safety.

Construction includes:

Widening of U.S. 40, SR 331 and Hammond Road

A new connector between existing SR 331 and Hammond Road

Improved roadway and interchange design

SR 331 bridge replacement

Twin bridge deck replacements on I-70 over U.S. 40

Pedestrian facilities within the project limits

The completion date for the entire project is July 31, 2018.
