Barnesville Senior Girl Scout Troop 5795 attended the National Girl Scout Jamboree in Glen Jean, West Virginia, from June 28-July 2, 2017. The participants included Hailey Baker, Kayla Crooks, Alyssa McEndree, Kassie Steele and Troop leader Kim Crooks. The girls are going to be sophomores in high school this fall.

The Girl Scout Jamboree was held at the Summit Bechtel Family Scout Reserve. Over 1,000 Girl Scouts were in attendance and represented 24 states. Some of the states included California, Washington, Texas, Louisiana, Maine, Virginia, Missouri, Hawaii, West Virginia, Ohio and one Girl Scout from London, England. This is only the second Girl Scout Jamboree hosted by Black Diamond Girl Scout Council.

The girls experienced many activities such as: tree-top canopies, zip lining, BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, rappelling, archery, air rifle, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, water obstacle courses, arts and crafts, lashing, fire-building skills, STEM, healthy living skills, and earned badges. The girls in the troop walked approximately 10 miles every day going to the activities. The Jamboree wrapped up with a concert from West Virginia native, X Factor contestant, and country music singer Colton Pack.

Girls gained skills at the Jamboree to empower themselves for life and become go-getters, innovators, risk-takers, and leaders. They learn the meaning of team work and push each other to do better. They build courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place; which is the Girl Scout mission.
