OSU Extension along with its partner, Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District, are recruiting volunteers for the Ohio Valley Volunteer Naturalist Group (OCVN). This will be the second Ohio Valley chapter Ohio State volunteer naturalist group! The program will begin August 1-31 every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Barkcamp State Park with outdoor venues. The cost is $175. The fee covers your training manual and class speakers and venues. Registration deadline is July 21.

OCVN mission is to promote awareness and citizen stewardship of Ohio's natural resources through science-based education and community service. To become an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturist, you must complete 40 hours of combined classroom and field instruction, perform 40 hours of approved volunteer service within the first year; and after certification, 20 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of advanced training annually.

The classes consist of botany, nature interpretation/ecology/stewardship, forestry, watersheds/water quality, soils, geology/archeology, entomology, herpetology, ornithology, falconry, invasive insects/plants and mammals.
