Astoria Place of Barnesville resident Wanda Smith is pictured with an American flag afghan that she crocheted. She will sell raffle tickets for that full-size bed sized afghan at an upcoming family reunion, but is finishing a second one that will benefit the activities department at Astoria Place. Tickets for the afghan will be sold at Astoria Place through Labor Day for $1 each or six for $5. Activities Director Lisa Delman said Smith crochets a lot and makes items for Astoria Place's craft bazaars including scarves, leg warmers and ornaments. Smith said she wished more people would learn to crochet and make handmade gifts. Smith said she wanted to donate an afghan as a fundraiser for the activities department because she appreciates participating in events such as a recent trip to Amish country. Delman said the fall craft bazaar will be held the first Saturday in November.
